About the Geraldton Urban Ecovillage
The Concept:The concept of the Geraldton Urban Ecovillage will evolve as the project unfolds. Whilst Greenedge will steer and mold the project through the use of the: “Making Ecovillages Happen” model, the project is structured so that the people, who will ultimately dwell at the ecovillage, will have input into the design and environ they inhabit.
There is of course already a vision of how it may be………
The Geraldton Urban Ecovillage will be a beautiful and vibrant site. The sustainably designed structures will merge with the natural environment to produce an overall effect of harmony and balance. The project will be considered a world-class example of an urban ecovillage. We hope that it will inspire others to live in a way that honours the earth.
Minimal Ecological Footprint:
A minimal ecological footprint in the design of the village and dwellings will be of prime importance. The buildings will have a small environmental impact through the use of; materials with low-embodied energy, solar passive orientation, and sustainable contained waste and energy systems. The use of the principles of permaculture will direct the design of the village.
Diverse Community:
We hope to forge a village which is home to a thriving community, from diverse social and cultural backgrounds and inclusive of people across the generations. The village centre will be the heart of the settlement providing functional and beautiful shared spaces for work and play.
Creative Hub:
Whilst some people may continue working off-site it is envisioned that the village will become a creative hub of activity as village based enterprises are born and grow. The proximity to town means that community members can easily move between village and town life, having the best of both.
There will be in place clear decision making and conflict resolution procedures. It is hoped that the community members of the village will be interdependent people, with a sense of belonging and purpose.
