Welcome to the Geraldton Urban Ecovillage

Vision

The Geraldton Urban Ecovillage Project will facilitate the sustainable urban use of the earth’s natural resources whilst simultaneously catering for the desire to partake in a unified and effective community, which values a high quality of life.

An ecovillage can be defined as:
“A human-scale, fully featured settlement in which human activities are harmlessly integrated into the natural world in a way that is supportive of healthy human development and can be successfully continued into the indefinite future (R. Gilman, 2000).”

The Geraldton Ecovillage Project is unique. The opportunity to live in an urban ecovillage in a regional centre such as Geraldton has never been available before. The ecovillage site, at Wells Street, is only 1 kilometer to the ocean and central business district of Geraldton, offering a rare chance for a central urban ecovillage development, so close to the heart of a city.

Permaculture principles will be employed in the design of the ecovillage to ensure efficiency and harmony between human and natural systems. In this settlement the synergy between social, ecological and economic concerns will be paramount.
